Young researchers & mobility grants

These grants are designed to promote international scientific exchange, support skills development, and foster research collaborations between French and international laboratories.

Eligibility

The grants are open to PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career researchers who meet the ANR JCJC eligibility criteria¹ and whose research aligns with the scientific scope of the PEPR LUMA programme.

Two types of mobility are eligible for funding:
•    Outgoing mobility: a research stay at a foreign laboratory for researchers based at a French research institution.
•    Incoming mobility: a research stay at a French laboratory for researchers based at a foreign research institution.

Priority will be given to mobility projects within Europe, although applications involving destinations outside Europe will also be considered.

Funding

Grants of up to €5,000 per mobility project are available to cover eligible travel and subsistence expenses, including transportation, accommodation, and living costs incurred during the stay.

Funding is awarded to the French host or home institution, as applicable, which is responsible for managing the funds and covering expenses in accordance with its internal procedures and the approved budget.

The same expense cannot be funded twice.

Application procedure

Applications must be submitted via the online application form and must include the following supporting documents:
•    Mobility project proposal (maximum 3 pages). File name: “First name Last name – Mobility Project”
•    Letter of support from the applicant’s home institution. File name: “First name Last name – Support”
•    Letter of invitation from the host laboratory. File name: “First name Last name – Invitation”

Please ensure that all documents are provided and named according to the instructions above.

Application Review and Selection

Applications will be reviewed during the following selection rounds:
•    Round 3: deadline of 11 December 2026, at 12:00 noon (Paris time).
•    Round 4: deadline of 19 March 2027, at 12:00 noon (Paris time).
•    Round 5: deadline of 16 July 2027, at 12:00 noon (Paris time).

Applications will be assessed by the PEPR LUMA management team based on the following criteria:
•    Scientific merit and relevance of the proposed mobility;
•    Alignment with the objectives and research priorities of the PEPR LUMA programme;
•    Potential for future collaboration and the expected benefits of the mobility.

Sharing the Outcomes

Following their mobility period, grant recipients will be required to submit a brief scientific report summarising the work carried out and outlining prospects for future collaboration.

They will also be invited to present their experience in a short flash presentation at the next PEPR LUMA annual meeting.
